What type of care do we offer?

How does speech-language therapy support autistic children?

Speech-language therapy (SLT) for autistic individuals focuses on improving communication and language skills. This can include:

  • Verbal communication: Helping individuals with autism develop spoken language skills, such as articulation, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
  • Nonverbal communication: Teaching individuals to express themselves using gestures, facial expressions, and body language.
  • Social communication: Guiding autistic individuals to understand and engage in social interactions, such as taking turns, initiating conversations, and responding to questions.
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC): Using tools like sign language, picture boards, or speech-generating devices to help individuals with autism communicate effectively.
  • Executive Functioning: Helping with planning, organizing, and flexible thinking.
How does occupational therapy support autistic children?

Occupational therapy (OT) for autistic individuals helps individuals develop the skills to participate in daily activities and occupations.  This can include:

  • Fine motor skills: Improving hand-eye coordination, handwriting, and using utensils.
  • Gross motor skills: Enhancing balance, coordination, and motor planning for walking, running, and playing.
  • Sensory processing and regulation: Helping individuals regulate their senses and respond appropriately to sensory input, such as touch, sound, and light.
  • Self-care skills: Teaching individuals to perform activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, and eating.
  • Social skills: Developing social interaction skills, such as sharing, cooperation, and problem-solving.
  • Emotional regulation: Supporting individuals in managing emotions, transitions, and coping strategies.
How does physical therapy support autistic children?

Physical therapy (PT) for autistic individuals focuses on improving physical function and movement. This can include:

  • Gross motor skills: Enhancing strength, balance, coordination, and endurance.
  • Motor planning: Helping individuals plan and execute movements more effectively.
  • Sensory integration: Improving sensory processing and motor function.
  • Functional mobility: Assisting individuals with activities like walking, running, and climbing.
  • Motor learning: Teaching individuals to learn new motor skills and improve existing ones.
